Riazul Tequila

In the desert Highlands of Mexico, 250 acres of land has been handed down from generation to generation for more than 200 years. This land stood as a pivotal battlefront in the war for Mexican independence. Land where determination and pride prevailed in the struggle for freedom. This is the land of Riazul — a silky, smooth premium tequila made from 100% blue agave.

Riazul features a very impressive line up of three tequilas; a Reposado, a Silver and Añejo.

Each flavor has been rated 90 or better out of 100 by tequila.net. The Riazul Añejo is aged for two years — longer than any tequila in its class. Riazul selected French oak barrels, made from wood in the Citeaux forests of Burgundy and features a medium toast. The Añejo displays subtle hint of agave, driven by delicate flavors of honey, vanilla, dried fruits, and spices.

The Reposado is aged for nine months in French and American oak barrels and opens up with unique welcoming aromas. It is anchored by a slight oak base that blossoms to reveal hints of citrus fruit notes that linger on the palate.

The Silver is bottled directly following distillation and represents the most traditional form of tequila. Because it is not aged or enhanced by barreling, the Blanco is the choice of tequila purists who seek the unmasked agave character. Best served chilled or on the rocks, never frozen or on its own, and no salt or lime needed.

The entire Riazul Tequila portfolio ranges in price from $40.00 to $59.99 dollars. In particular the aging is what really piqued my interest. I really would love to pair the Riazul Añejo with a medium body cigar; maybe a Fuente Opus X. Additionally the Silver would be ideal for mixing cocktails.
